Central London Careers Hub Announces Free LMI Platform
04 Oct 2022
The Central London Careers Hub have today announced a new platform for educators and students to access labour market information (LMI). Start in London has been developed in partnership with all four London Careers Hubs and U-Explore to create an accessible, engaging platform aiming to provide vital sector information to students. The platform comes following significant changes in the economic landscape in recent years and responds to a surge in demand from careers educators for up-to-date, relevant information as students consider their options.
Start in London is a free-to-use platform designed to ‘inspire, excite and inform students about careers and study’ and should become viewed as a key part of a wider, holistic careers programme. Students using the platform will be able to input their current career aspirations and receive personalised information at a local and industry level. By accessing their own StartProfile, students will be empowered to explore resources tailored to their own interests; helping to inform their study intentions and longer-term career decisions.
The platform is also designed to be accessible for educators, whether careers-focussed or not, by providing a wide range of teaching and learning resources such as customisable subject lesson plans, slide decks and activity worksheets all designed to support schools to embed careers education within the curriculum. The resources have all been developed to be used in standalone sessions, perhaps within PSHE or tutor times, or as part of an ongoing scheme of work to build understanding over time.
By interacting with the platform throughout the academic journey students will create a personal and specific resource tailored to their own interests and intentions for future study. The platform includes support for students to build their CV, assess and develop their skills using the Skills Builder Framework, access exclusive virtual work experience programmes and record their careers experiences as they progress through the school. All information is kept up to date by a wide range of trusted industry partners to provide educators and students a platform they can rely on; whether it be job profiles being updated in real time via LMI for All, vacancy info provided by an integration with Indeed or the careers interactions mapping directly to your Compass+ system, Start in London is designed to simplify and enhance the student experience.
Developed to be a key part of the ongoing support provided to schools by the Careers Hub, Start in London is designed to enhance the ability of careers leaders to evidence progression against all Gatsby Benchmarks. Enterprise Coordinators have received training ahead of the academic year on the platform’s many features and will be well-placed to support with the integration into existing careers provision.
Michelle Sporle, Strategic Hub Lead at the Central London Careers Hub, said,
“I am delighted to be able to announce the introduction of this platform freely available to all schools in the Hub. I am in no doubt this will greatly enhance the strong careers provision we see in London, empowering students to be more informed in their choices in a fast-changing world.” Jenna Nicolls, Education Partnership Manager at U-Explore said, “I’m thrilled to be working in partnership with the Central London Careers Hub team to support schools to find out about and use our brand new LMI platform ‘Start in London’ - schools can contact me directly to find out how this resource will help them bring LMI to life in the classroom and the minds of their students, whilst working towards those all-important benchmarks.”
