The University of Roehampton are helping young Londoners with careers opportunities
09 Aug 2022
Central London Careers Hub are pleased to be working with the University of Roehampton’s Recruitment and International Development team to support young Londoners in their steps to employment and Higher Education.
Our new partnership with the university has resulted in six campus visits, each attended by around 30 students from Ernest Bevin College.
The events were also supported by University Student Ambassadors and employer contacts from LinkedIn, the University Alumni network and other Hub contacts. Thanks to this partnership with the university, we have been able to provide fantastic and eye-opening careers opportunities, based on labour market information, to around 180 students from Ernest Bevin College.
The University has provided great support, welcoming employers and college students to their campus for meaningful careers provision (as recorded in Gatsby Benchmarks 5, 6 & 7). This collaboration was highly commended at the Pan-London Careers Education Conference in the category of Careers Partnership 2022.
The visits included a mock legal trial, which saw students access resources and facilitates at the university's Mandela Building, which includes a courtroom used by students to get a realistic experience of the world of work.
Another visit provided exposure to media and communication professions. The day includes a welcome talk, media taster lecture about storyboarding, a Q&A careers panel and interactive workshop. The students particularly enjoyed the filmmaking workshops in the university’s audio studio and greenscreen studio.
We were joined by employer representatives from The&Partnership (BEAT Global) and Mayfilm Works, who shared their experiences of working in acting, content strategy and filmmaking.
One Year 9 student said afterwards:
“It was really enjoyable, the campus is really good and the taster lecture was very interesting. It helped us a lot and the lecturers and teachers taught us very well. I learnt a lot, and this visit has made me consider taking media as a course. Thank you."
